Department of Emergency Medicine
Clinical Services

he Emergency Medicine Department at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center is a fully equipped, comprehensive treatment area, offering state-of-the-art healthcare. The department has a full spectrum of services providing adult, pediatric, and critical care units. The Pediatric Emergency Department provides individual treatment areas with both resuscitation and isolation areas and is staffed by board certified specialists.

New Pediatric Emergency Dept

In addition, a new CAT scanner, along with two portable ultrasound units have been recently added to the emergency department.

The Jamaica Hospital Chest Pain Center, the first of its kind in NYC, is a six-bed unit located within the emergency department, and employs central monitoring of patients with electrocardiography capability. This separate chest pain center allows for quick diagnosis, and specific treatment and prevention of heart attacks. There is also an adjacent newly constructed Critical Care Area.

The department also supports the Fast Track system. This calls for the rapid diagnosis of less serious conditions, and allows for a quick two-hour turnaround time in most cases. The department has a full-time staff of over 40 doctors, nurse practitioners and physician assistants working to ensure the care of its patients is met around the clock.

The ED is supported by our nursing and ancillary staff who are trained and experienced in the care of emergency patients. They have a talent for dealing with the concern of patients and their families in a stressful environment and work hard to assure that your stay is as comfortable and reassuring as possible.

Adult Emergency Department

The department treats over 130,000 patients a year, and supports a 24-hour ambulance department.
