The Department of Pediatrics at Jamaica Hospital Medical
Center is one of the most comprehensive facilities in the
country in helping children and parents overcome illness.
Our physicians are highly trained in a variety of sub-specialties,
but all of our staff specialize in the compassion needed to
treat children. The Department utilizes the main hospital
facilities to provide specialty care, and several off-site
clinics for more convenient access for less serious medical
attention.
In January 2001, a new Pediatric Emergency Room was opened
in Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, which sees 30,000 patient
care visits annually. This new facility combines with 12 ambulatory
care sites to offer trauma care, orthopedic, and all urgent
and emergent specialties.
The Department also offers a reading corner to promote the
love of books, as well as a supervised playroom. Aside from
offering care in the hospital facilities, the pediatric department
sponsors a School Health Program. This program sends physicians
and support staff to three community schools to promote health
and wellness in the community.
