PGY-II:

OB: 13 weeks; GYN: 13 weeks; Night Float: 10 weeks; Ambulatory: 4 weeks; Reproductive Endorinology and Infertility: 4 weeks (at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Cornell); Family Medicine: 2 weeks; Continuity Clinic: 36 weeks; Vacation: 4 weeks

During the second year of residency, 13 weeks are spent on the surgical services. The second year gynecology rotation provides the resident with a variety of surgical experiences. This resident participates in the ambulatory and inpatient settings, performing major and minor operations, both endoscopic and open, with gynecologic surgeons who are generalists and subspecialists. The resident also receives an initial exposure to Urogynecology.

Obstetrical training during the second year consists of both "low-risk" and "high-risk" patients exposure for total of two and a half months. The night float rotation augments the first year experience in labor and delivery management, progressing towards more complicated cesarean sections and operative vaginal deliveries. On the "high-risk" service, residents work directly with the Maternal-Fetal Medicine division in the management of complicated pregnancies.

The second year resident also participates in the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) rotation at the New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill-Cornell Medical Center introduces residents to a wider and more specialized clinical and educational experience. The rotation includes out-patient sessions (clinic and private office), operating room time, and all of the weekly and monthly conferences that are required of the REI fellows. At JHMC, we have a salaried faculty subspecialist board-certified in REI, who supervises the weekly REI clinic as well as surgical cases. Residents in all four years participate in this clinic during their Ambulatory Care rotation. In addition, a lecture series by an REI attending from NYPH/Weill-Cornell Medical Center broadens the content of the didactic program in this subspecialty.
