OB: 13 weeks; GYN: 12 weeks; Night Float: 10 weeks; Ambulatory: 4 weeks; Gyn Oncology: 8 weeks (at Memorial Sloan-Kettering); Optional Elective Block: up to 4 weeks (between 3rd and 4th year); Continuity Clinic: 36 weeks; Vacation: 4 weeks
During the third and fourth years of residency, attention is directed towards honing the skills learned during the first two years, and gaining increasingly greater responsibilities in patient management, always with direct faculty supervision.
Training in Gynecologic Oncology takes place at JHMC over the course of all four years, but is emphasized in the third year with a structured two-month rotation at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. The Director of Gynecologic Oncology at JHMC integrates the residents into all aspects of patient care, including operating experiences and post-operative care; in addition, we have a consultant Gynecology Oncologist from our affiliate, Flushing Hospital, who provides backup for surgical management and assists with tumor board presentations. Tumor board presentations include the participation of our attending pathologists, with histological review and discussion. Our educational curriculum includes comprehensive didactic sessions about gynecologic malignancies, risk factors, screening, and treatment. Daily supervised rounds occur on all in-patients with our full-time faculty.
